A Vietnamese man who died this week and whose hair was so long it resembled a boa constrictor, may have had the world's longest mane, according to reports. The exact length of Tran Van Hay's unwashed hair was unclear but the Vietnam News said it was 6.8 metres long (over 22 feet). The Thanh Nien daily said Hay's matted locks were measured at 6.2 metres in 2006.(Agencies)

A Vietnamese man who was thought to have the world's longest hair has died.

陈 chén 文 wén 海的 hǎi de 头发 tóu fa 常年 cháng nián 不 bù 洗 xǐ ，其 qí 头发 tóu fa 的确 dí què 切 qiē 长度 cháng dù 不得而知 bù dé ér zhī ，但 dàn 据 jù 估计 gū jì 有 yǒu 6.8 米 mǐ 。

The exact length of Tran Van Hay's unwashed hair was unclear but some estimates put it as long as 6.8 metres.

据 jù 《吉尼斯 jí ní sī 世界纪录 shì jiè jì lù 》，此前 cǐ qián 中国人 zhōng guó rén 谢 xiè 秋 qiū 萍 píng 被认为是 bèi rèn wéi shì 全世界 quán shì jiè 头发 tóu fa 最长 zuì cháng 记录 jì lù 保持者 bǎo chí zhě ， 2004 年 nián 她的 tā de 发 fā 长 cháng 达到 dá dào 5.6 米 mǐ 。

China's Xie Qiuping is on record as having the world's longest hair, measured at 5.6 metres in 2004, according to the Guinness World Records.

《越南 yuè nán 新闻 xīn wén 》援引 yuán yǐn 陈 chén 文 wén 海 hǎi 妻子 qī zi 阮 ruǎn 氏 shì 华 huá 的话 de huà 称 chèn ，陈 chén 文 wén 海 hǎi 50 多年 duō nián 没 méi 剪 jiǎn 过 guo 头发 tóu fa ，因为 yīn wéi 他 tā 一 yī 理发 lǐ fà 就 jiù 生病 shēng bìng 。

Hay began to let his hair grow more than 50 years ago because he often got sick after a haircut, the Vietnam News quoted his wife, Nguyen Thi Hoa, as saying.

Media reports said he lived a simple life as a herbalist, but his hair could complicate things. Reports said no motorcycle taxi would carry him because he could not wear a helmet. In the daytime he balanced his hair on his head like a basket, protected by a scarf.

《越南 yuè nán 新闻 xīn wén 》报道 bào dào 称 chèn ，陈 chén 文 wén 海的 hǎi de 头发 tóu fa 已 yǐ 达 dá 数 shǔ 磅 bàng 之 zhī 重 zhòng ，他 tā 于 yú 本周 běn zhōu 三 sān 在 zài 越南 yuè nán 南部 nán bù 建 jiàn 江 jiāng 省的 shěng de 家 jiā 中 zhōng 去世 qù shì ，享年 xiǎng nián 79 岁 suì 。

Hay, whose hair weighed several pounds, died at home Wednesday in the southern province of Kien Giang at the age of 79, Vietnam News said.
